TRC is committed to responsible and environmentally conscious computer and electronics recycling services. As a member of the Basel Action Network's e-Stewards Initiative, The Retrofit Companies has pledged that no hazardous electronic equipment or parts (as defined internationally) will be exported to developing countries or be processed by captive prison labor, and that no e-scrap or computer waste will end up in landfills or incinerators.

Technicians dismantle the e-scrap and separate it into different commodities. These materials include precious metals, circuit boards, copper wiring, cathode ray tubes, aluminum, plastics and many others. For example, gold, palladium, platinum, and silver are recovered from circuit boards. Iron is recovered from the computer chassis. These materials are then recycled and reused in products. The scrap iron from computer chassis is re-melted into recycled steel. The plastics are recycled into consumer products like camera cases and office supplies. The leaded glass in cathode ray tubes is re-melted and used to manufacture new picture tubes. We can tell our customers exactly how their computer equipment and other e-waste is recycled and processed into a new product.

Our recycling partner is annually audited by an independent management professional to ensure they follow the strict guidelines adopted by TRC. When e-scrap or other electronic computer equipment is destroyed through recycling, our recycling partner issues a Certificate of Destruction ensuring your electronic waste was processed according to the standards required by the US EPA.

Recycling electronic waste and e-scrap at TRC includes the destruction of all magnetic media (such as tapes and hard drives) and all information contained therein. All of your private information is protected, overwritten and destroyed.
